McGraw Hill announces $50,000 scholarship for incarcerated juvenile firefighters 

Who: McGraw Hill will be launching its #Education4Empowerment scholarship. 

What: #Education4Empowerment is a essay scholarship contest that will be exclusively open to the incarcerated youth firefighters who responded to the 2025 LA wildfires. The contest’s theme is “resilience”, with participants encouraged to reflect on what their experience on the frontlines of California’s wildfires taught them. The first place winner will receive $50,000 while the second and third place winners will each receive $10,000.       

Where: McGraw Hill will accept submissions through its website, and the winners will be announced on the publisher’s Instagram. 

When: Submissions will be open from March 1 to April 1. Winners will be announced on April 14 at 10:00 a.m..
